One of my favorite Bushisms<\/a> is one that George W. said when visiting Nashville in 2002. “There’s an old saying<\/span> in Tennessee,” he began. “I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee [as well] \u2014 that says, ‘Fool<\/span> me once: shame on you. Fool me [twice]: you can’t get fooled again.”<\/p>\n

Bush had forgotten the second part of the saying, which is “Fool me twice: shame on me,” and had made up<\/span> the rest. But like his many other Freudian slips<\/span>, this one \u2014 spoken<\/a> between some deceitful<\/span> assertions<\/span> about Iraq \u2014 contains a certain truth or wisdom of its own. After being fooled twice, you not only shouldn’t<\/i> be fooled; you can’t<\/i> be fooled.<\/p>\n

Twice this winter<\/b>, we’ve seen severe<\/span> storms with high<\/span> winds and unusual amounts of snow cross the United States. A couple of weeks later, those same storms brought chaos to Britain and northern Germany, where no one had bothered<\/span> to prepare for them.<\/p>\n

So when I tell you now that a third storm \u2014 worse than the other two \u2014 is on its way, there’ll be no excuse for inaction<\/span>. People of Rostock<\/b>, get out those backup<\/span> generators! People of Berlin<\/b>, start up those snowplows<\/span>! People of Hamburg<\/b>, order those extra cinders<\/span>! People of Dortmund<\/b>, start stocking up<\/span>! You’ve got only days to prepare.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\t\t
